Jane Clarke, author of the Gilbert the Shark picture book series, visited Year 3 and 4 this week to tell us about being an author and show us how a picture book is put together.
Jane recited poems, showed us her working notebooks for the Rex Stone: Dinosaur Cove series (for which she is the lead writer), and explained to us how a picture book is made – it takes a LONG time and a lot of work to get from the first idea to the book you can buy in the shops!
Jane is a keen fossil collector and loves sharks and had a surprise for us all at the end of her talk. She had brought with her 120 fossilised shark’s teeth: enough for every child in Years 3 and 4 to take one home as a souvenir of her visit.
We are very happy to have met Jane, who told us that Years 3 and 4 were a lovely audience: well-behaved and engaged with great questions for her. Well done Years 3 and 4!
